Description
The scarab was a prominent symbol of the god Ra in Ancient Egypt. They were a symbol of death and rebirth, and scarab-decorated amulets were often made and inscribed with prayers to provide protection, guidance, and favorable judgment in the afterlife. In my experience, I have also come to associate them with wealth, as many afterlife symbols do bear that association. These figures sit at about 3″ in length and make a beautiful addition to any ancestor or prosperity altar.
The Witch’s Recommendations: For me, the association with wealth outweighs the association with death when it comes to the scarab. This is, in part, its shiny sheen and, in another part, its association in certain pieces of media with money. These days, I think it has become one of my favorite insects.
